Old Ways Herbal School of Plant Medicine

The focus of our teaching is to help people reclaim lost wisdom to care for their families’ health. In the last two years, we have offered over 40 classes and workshops, including speaking engagements at organic gardening and regional herbal medicine conferences, as well as the apprentice program and both beginner and intermediate level courses. Courses Our popular courses on family herbalism, medicine-making, homesteading skills, wildcrafting and gardening take place in our beautiful open-air woodland classroom, surrounded by Vermont’s native plants and venerable trees, with the song of the river in the background. Herb school offerings change seasonally and feature both beginner and intermediate level courses. Work-trade is available and children are welcome. See School of Plant Medicine Courses for more information.

Apprenticeship Old Ways Herbal offers a personalized, hands-on herbal apprentice program for students looking for an in-depth experience. The 6-month program takes place over the course of a growing season and involves all aspects of our herbal practice. See Apprentice Program for more information.

Workshops Every season, we host a number of skill-based workshops on themes related to herbal medicine and homesteading.  Topics include individual medicine-making techniques, specific uses of herbs, seed starting and plant cultivation, mushroom log inoculation, basic animal husbandry, and more.   More information here.

Intensive Learning Experiences Intensives grew out of the overwhelming interest in Old Ways Herbal summer apprenticeships.  I couldn’t accommodate all of the applicants, so I decided to offer these full-day classes as an opportunity for in-depth learning. All Intensives include lecture, discussion, and hands-on applications of the topic.  More information here.
